Producer Kendrick Wallace launches a $15,000 Indiegogo campaign seeking development funding for The Amazing Adventures of Victoria Clarke
Steampunk and science fiction fans will have an opportunity to support the development of an independent action adventure feature film, The Amazing Adventures of Victoria Clarke on Indiegogo.com this summer.

Veteran visual effects producer Kendrick Wallace (Aliens verses Predator II, The A-Team, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter) is taking a unique approach to getting a movie made in Hollywood. By engaging movie fans at the earliest stage of development, he hopes to build a dynamic community of people personally invested in every stage of the movie’s development and production.

“I think fans often wonder why Hollywood doesn’t make the movies they want to see. Crowdfunding offers fans of a genre the chance to tell studios that this is a project they are excited about, and that it is a project they believe in enough to back. If we come to the studios with a development package and a fan base of thousands of people, we get a different response than if we stand on their doorstep with nothing but a spec script and a dream,” remarks Wallace.

Significant progress has already been made on early aspects of the project, such as character development, story, a website, and a rapidly growing Facebook fan page. Ken has also enlisted help from his contacts within the global visual effects community, including notable companies like Rodeo FX in Montreal, Gentle Giant Studios in Los Angeles and Atomic FX in London.

“The visual effects industry is in a state of turmoil right now for many reasons, and I think one of the solutions to the situation is to involve these companies as early in the process as possible so that they become creative partners,” says Wallace.

"Crowdfunding offers fans of a genre the chance to tell studios that this is a project they are excited about, and that it is a project they believe in enough to back."
In some cases, such partnerships may even include equity ownership in the movie in exchange for visual effects work done at a reduced cost; a novel approach that Wallace believes may hold the key to revitalizing a struggling visual effects industry.

“I am certainly open to any arrangement that allows us to get the best work done in a way that makes this an attractive project for Hollywood to consider. This project isn’t about me--it is about building a community of artists and fans who want to make the best movie possible. If we manage to create a new model of filmmaking through this process, that would be the ultimate success.”

The Amazing Adventures of Victoria Clarke is the stylish and exciting story of the exploits of a female British agent living undercover in the United States in the 1920s as a struggling Hollywood actress.
Stylistically, Victoria Clarke draws heavily from the world of Steampunk, and its sub-culture Dieselpunk, incorporating technology from World War I and Art Deco design influences. Because Victoria’s backstory is solidly rooted in Victorian London, fanciful technologies, the designs of Edison and Tesla, and the writings of HG Wells and Jules Verne strongly influence both the design aesthetic and story elements.
"This project isn’t about me--it is about building a community of artists and fans who want to make the best movie possible. If we manage to create a new model of filmmaking through this process, that would be the ultimate success.”
The filmmakers and their creative partners are planning to create a development package that includes the feature film script, concept art illustrations, set and wardrobe design, and a sizzle reel, all aimed at clearly communicating their creative vision for the movie. If they pass their $15,000 target, they also have plans in place for expanding the package to include additional artwork, animated previsualization, and visual effects tests.

Ken Wallace Films Partners with Visual Effects Artists to Develop Crowdfunding Campaign for The Amazing Adventures Of Victoria Clarke
Ken Wallace Films LLC is partnering with feature film visual effects companies and independent artists to create conceptual designs for the original film property The Amazing Adventures of Victoria Clarke. By enlisting the talents of a-list artists to design concept art, storyboards and visual effects, producer Kendrick Wallace plans to build a robust development package to use as the basis for a crowdfunding campaign.
Los Angeles, CA, April 28, 2013 -- As movie studios tighten their grip on development, Hollywood producers must search for creative ways to bring their ideas to life, and many see internet crowdfunding as the future of independent story development. Film and Video projects are the most successfully funded category on Kickstarter, with over 25,000 projects having raised more than $107 million to date. Producer Kendrick Wallace is developing one such project, The Amazing Adventures of Victoria Clarke as both a feature film and as an original series to be pitched to high-end content providers looking for tent-pole material for their networks.

"As movie studios tighten their grip on development, Hollywood producers must search for creative ways to bring their ideas to life…"
“The successful crowdfunding of some very high-profile projects has empowered creative people with movie ideas to go directly to the audiences to get their stories told. I personally feel that ultimately it is more rewarding to interact directly with the people who are interested in your project. By having a dialogue with fans of the genre, and by really listening to what they want, my hope is that they will feel invested personally in the success of the project and will be willing to support it by spreading the word in social media, and of course by contributing on funding sites such as Indiegogo or Kickstarter,” said Kendrick Wallace, Producer and Creator.

Kendrick Wallace has been working in Hollywood feature films for the past 20 years, and has produced visual effects on numerous high-profile movie projects, most recently Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter®. This is his first attempt at developing a project using social media and crowdfunding.
“It is important to me to set up a crowdfunding campaign that has the greatest chance of success possible. For me, that means creating awareness and excitement with the fan base for this genre of movie. I’ve been spending countless hours on social media spreading the word, but I’m just one person and I can’t do it all.”

In order to create exciting images that will fire up the fans, Ken turned to his peers in the visual effects community, and reached out to artists with an interest in steampunk stories and imagery. One of the first to help was award winning visual effects company Rodeo FX in Montreal, Quebec. (www.rodeofx.com)

"In order to create exciting images that will fire up the fans, Ken turned to his peers in the visual effects community…"

“It is always hard to ask for favors, but I believe strongly in the potential of the project and luckily, people who see what I’ve done so far immediately ‘get it’ and they are excited to help. That’s how it was with Rodeo FX. I had worked with them on Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter®, and I knew they had some amazing and talented artists. The timing happened to be good for one of their top artists to do some work on Victoria between bigger projects.”

The result of these collaborations is a series of photos and conceptual art pieces that visually support the scripted material so that investors have a clear picture of Ken’s vision for the project. Victoria Clarke tells the story of a female British agent, undercover in 1920s Hollywood as a B-Movie actress. The daughter of wealthy British industrialists, the independent and resourceful Victoria sets out on secret missions to destroy weapons being developed by powerful forces in post WWI Europe. The project has a fun, sexy and retro feel, with strong Steampunk and Dieselpunk influences.

"The result of these collaborations is a series of photos and conceptual art pieces that visually support the scripted material so that investors have a clear picture of Ken’s vision for the project."

“Victoria is a female cross between Batman® and Sherlock Holmes®, but set in Hollywood during the roaring 1920s. She is playing at being a bad actress because she really has no intention of having a successful career in Hollywood--she’s just hiding out. She has a family fortune and access to this amazing steampunk-style technology, but because of political enemies in Britain she can’t return home. She is waging her own private battle against a brewing evil in Europe,”

As a filmmaker and science fiction fan, the concept of Victoria Clarke grew from Ken’s love of movies from the golden age of Hollywood, as well as his fascination with the steampunk concept of alternative futurism. His goal was to combine the two genres into a classic adventure story that would showcase the best of both worlds. Victoria has a strong female lead, epic scale and Raiders of the Lost Ark® style action.

The next stage in the Victoria Clarke is to prepare an informative and entertaining campaign site.

"While I have been working on growing the social media audience through our website, Facebook and Twitter pages, I've also been taking a great amount of care to build a campaign site with the right amount of information, entertainment, and rewards for contributors. It is important that people are excited about being a part of this project."

The Amazing Adventures of Victoria Clarke Indiegogo campaign is scheduled to go live in June 2013.
